Academic Olympics is for scholars in grades 5 through 8. Scholars will compete as a collaborative team against other middle schools in the Sagebrush League by answering academic questions in all content areas. The Scholar Government at the Honors Academy of Literature is a vital part of the school. Scholars who participate in Scholar Government will:
We will be meeting the first 2-3 Mondays of every month (depending on holidays). In Scholar Government we will be learning about the importance of being a good leader, planning and helping run school event such as the school dance, spirit week, and field day. Scholar Government also addresses concerns that scholars have and would like to be addressed. Start date TBD Elections TBD Girls ClubThis club is for girls in grades 3-8. We will work on developing leadership and interpersonal skills. Older scholars will have the opportunity to mentor younger scholars about their school and social lives. After-School ActivitiesWe are excited to offer two special after-school programs at the Academy.
These are independently run organizations that meet at school. Sign up and payments are made directly to KidScape and Chess Kids. Classes are subject to minimum enrollments. KidScape Productions is a professional Life Skills and Acting program for ages 3 and up to develop self-confidence and communication skills.
Jump into our afterschool improvisation class and learn skills that are practiced by professionals all over the world. Each session we offer new games and skill sets and classes culminate in an impromptu performance on the final day, during regular class time. Our high energy, professional applications focus on the process of each student and includes a strong focus on a myriad of life skills which include: Spontaneity, body control, playfulness, concentration, imagination, flexibility, positive thinking and increased confidence in communication. Improvisation, when taught correctly, sets up a safe and fun environment for a student to undergo self-directed learning, hone in on leadership skills and discover hidden talents. We also must mention that this class hysterical and fun making the process extremely enjoyable! Parents welcome to watch at any time and don’t forget to save the date for the final day! (Impromptu showcase during regular class time, on the last day of the session) Chess Kidz uses songs, stories, and dances to bring the game of chess to children in a fun and exciting way. This wonderful learning experience not only teaches children to play chess now, but also prepares them for life later by enhancing their critical thinking skills, mental discipline, problem solving, and self-esteem.
Chess Kidz will be at the Academy on Mondays from 3:45 - 4:45 pm for K-8. They'll meet in Ms. Audrey's classroom downstairs. Sessions match our academic quarters. The second session runs for eight weeks, from October 20 through December 8. The cost for the 2nd quarter session is $85. Flyer |
