Ms. Chris MitchellProfessional:
I have been teaching since 1991. This is my fourth year at The Honors Academy of Literature. I teach Primary Literacy and Math. I am also the Special Education Coordinator for the school. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary and Special Education and a Master's Degree in Elementary Education with a focus on curriculum and instruction. I have presented at the Northern Nevada Math Council Math Conference, The Geographic Alliance in Nevada GeoFest, Nevada Reading Week Conference, and The Nevada Charter School Conference. The Honors Academy of Literature allows teachers to teach scholars in a way that promotes learning and is developmental in style. I get to design curriculum around my love for literacy. It is the best way to teach and I love it! Personal: I have lived in the Reno area since 1980. I graduated from McQueen High School and the University of Nevada-Reno. I have been married for 25+ years and have two children. My daughter, Emily will graduate from McQueen this year and enjoys playing softball. My son, Robert graduated from The Academy of Literature and is a freshman at McQueen. He enjoys playing lacrosse and participating in ROTC activities. As a family we enjoy fishing, camping, and bike riding. We also love to travel and explore new places. I enjoy collecting Children's Literature and sharing it with my classes.
