My name is Ms. Megan Jackling and I am so thrilled to be teaching alongside the great, growing team at the Honors Academy for the third year in a row! I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2015 with my bachelor's degree in elementary and special education, have an endorsement in teaching English as a second language, and a minor in Spanish Language. I am completing the Lemelson STEM Cohort through the University of Nevada, Reno and will graduate this May with my master’s. I am working on research to integrate teaching engineering with children’s literature, and I am sharing this new knowledge with our teachers so that we can implement this novel instructional strategy with our scholars.
This year I will be teaching fifth grade curriculum for literacy, math, science and social studies, as well as a Spanish class and a STEAM class. I am passionate about providing an educational atmosphere that facilitates curiosity, critical thinking and a love of learning. I believe that learning takes place both at home and at school, and collaboration with families is key to student success. Additionally, I believe in learning that is meaningful, and flexible to meet the developmental needs of individual learners. Children are the most important resource we have in our future; therefore, we must provide them with an education that meets their specific needs, for both their future educational and personal endeavors.
I look forward to being a part of this educational family that continues to strive toward researching and implementing best practices for all of our scholars!
