My name is Catha LaGere, and I am excited to be teaching as the new 1 st and 2nd grade flex teacher. Teaching and working with children has been a passion of mine for many years. I have worked with children aged birth through middle school for the past 20 years. I have taught 1 st and 3 rd grades. Most recently, I have been teaching in a Pre-Kindergarten program at the Indian Colony Head Start. I have taught there for six years. I enjoyed teaching the children basic skills for life as well as
helping them to maintain their culture by learning the Paiute language and teaching it to the children I have lived in the Reno and Carson City areas for the past 28 years. I am married and have two children. My daughter is in middle school and my son is in high school.
I graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Nevada, Reno. My minor was in Child Psychology. I went on to do student teaching in a first grade classroom. I was in the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and made the Dean’s List for my final semester of college. In my free time, I enjoy downhill skiing, hiking, reading, listening to music, creating art, traveling, and spending time with my family. I am looking forward to a wonderful year with everyone at the Honors Academy of Literature!
